Cambridge, Massachusetts is home to a number of very smart institutions full of very smart people. Joining the ranks of said smart institutions like MIT and Harvard is Wefunder, a new equity crowdfunding portal founded by Mike Norman, Nick Tomarrello and Greg Belote, alumni of MIT’s Sloan School of Management and startup accelerator Techstars.

Despite only having been founded last year, Wefunder has an impressive past. At its launch, the company used its own services to raise around $500,000 from about 60 investors, proving its effectiveness. It provided input on the ECF-related portion of the JOBS Act, and several important company figures attended President Obama’s signing ceremony for the bill. The site’s home page boasts of the $47,801,250 it has planned in startup investments from 17,033 investors.

While the portal is currently only completely open to accredited investors, interested non-accredited investors can join the site for early access to ECF deals pending the implementation of the JOBS Act at some point this or next year.
