San Francisco-based entrepreneur and “super angel” investor Dave McClure launched the investment fund and seed accelerator 500 Startups in 2010. The firm has an impressive list of alumni clientele, including popular app startups 9Gag and Smule.

The seed accelerator organizes promising startups into “classes” of 28, in which each startup receives funding, advice, and assistance. The accelerator announced its sixth class in March. As an investment fund, 500 Startups is active in early-stage investment around the world, having recently expanded into investing in Malaysian and Mexican startups. The company raised $10 million for a startup microfund, 500 Durians, in the former country.
