In December 1903, Wilbur and Orville Wright made the first successful flight with a self-propelled craft. And while airplanes have become much more advanced since that first flight, their engines haven’t actually changed much since the 1960s.

That’s a big problem. Aviation emissions are one of the largest contributors to climate change.

There are also a lot of problems with everything that leads up to a flight. From the moment you leave for the airport, go through security and wait for your flight until you finally board and take off, you have to deal with inefficient systems, uncomfortable accommodations and a lot of wasted time.

In other words: air travel needs to be disrupted.

In this episode of Startup Insider, Allison Brickell and Vin Narayanan discuss some of the latest innovations in aviation — including all-electric airplanes — and the news that some major airlines are investing in startups to make some much-needed improvements.
